Where you can go to get specialist support and help

General support

Safe Network Inc. — Auckland

For almost two decades, SAFE has been providing specialised treatment services to children, youth and adults who are causing harm to 17 year olds or under. They also offer education and prevention services to the wider NZ community. Several treatment services for those causing harm are available for different age groups, genders, sexual orientations or cultural backgrounds.

HELP

For three decades, HELP has been providing support for women and children harmed by sexual abuse. All counsellors working at HELP are women who are trained in dealing with issues arising from harmful sexual behaviour or rape. Among HELP's services are a 24 hour phone crisis counselling, a call-out service to support women through police interviews and forensic medicals, face-to-face therapy and a prevention programme for 3-4 year olds and their caregivers. We also provide court services, restorative justice and run "gr8 mates", a website for teenagers supporting friends: www.gr8mates.org.nz.

RPE (Rape Prevention Education)

For over 30 years Rape Prevention Education, formerly Rape Crisis Auckland, has focused on the prevention of sexual violence. They deliver many hundreds of sexual violence prevention workshops to many thousands of young people in schools every year. They also provide tailored training workshops to various community and health professionals about how to prevent sexual violence. They have an email and phone (9am-5pm) information and referral service. They also manage Sex 'n' Respect, a youth-oriented website promoting respectful relating: www.sexnrespect.co.nz.

Child Youth & Family (CYF)

Child, Youth & Family is the government agency that has legal powers to intervene to protect and help children who are being abused or neglected or who are exhibiting concerning sexual behaviours. They work with the Police and the COurts in dealing with young people who are causing harm under the youth justice system. They also provide residential and care services for children in need of care and protection and for young people who are causing harm.

New Zealand POLICE

Police know how difficult it is to seek help following a sexual assault. When you report a sexual assault, Police will investigate your complaint and work alongside other services to make sure you are offered medical help and advice, counselling and help with your recovery. Tu Wahine Trust

A confidential service for Maori women and children and their whanau living in West Auckland who have been affected by sexual violence, family violence and all other forms of abuse, offering counselling, support and therapy.

Mental Health Foundation Crisis National Directory

If you need immediate help or if you need support as a male victim of sexual abuse, this directory has a list of numbers of the DHB Mental Health Crisis Team (CATT Team) across New Zealand.

Counselling Services Centre

Counselling Services Centre provides a 24 hour, 7 day per week crisis response service for the victims of acute or historical sexual abuse or sexual assault. They are the only Agency providing this service to the people of Counties Manukau In addition to their crisis service, they offer counselling for:

Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse

MSSAT provides support for male survivors of sexual abuse. They offer one on one support, referral to ACC counsellors and appropriate agencies, support with court hearings, weekly group support meetings and support on how to move forward. MSSAT is in Auckland, Waikato, Wellington, Christchurch, Timaru and Dunedin.
